The Sapienza University of Rome

Hotel Caracciolo is about one and a half kilometres from the Sapienza University of Rome, allowing hotel guests to attend conferences or graduations and visit one of Europe's most important institutions.

The Sapienza is the largest university in Europe and the second in the world after Cairo, with over 700 years of history and 145 thousand students enrolled.

The recent renovation process, to better integrate the university with Rome’s urban fabric, has led to the creation of five affiliated universities covering 23 faculties. There are more than 4,500 lecturers, and approximately 5,000 technical and administrative staff.

The organisation of internal governance is composed of a governing body: a deputy rector and a group of pro-rectors with specific skills support the rector in the management of the university, together with the cooperation of ad hoc committees and two university centres for strategic evaluation and planning.

The academic programmes at the Sapienza include more than 370 degree courses and 300 master’s degree courses. The available services include 155 libraries and 21 museums.

The student body includes more than 30 thousand students from other regions, over 5,000 students enrolled from other countries and around 800 Erasmus students each year. Guidance upon entering, placement when leaving and computerisation form the strategic horizon in terms of services.

Sapienza, with 111 departments and more than 30 study centres, attains levels of excellence in fields of research such as archaeology, physics and astrophysics, the humanities and cultural heritage, the environment, nanotechnologies, cellular and gene therapy, design and aerospace.

In 2006, the Sapienza innovation consortium was launched, in association with Filas, Bic Lazio and Unicredit Banca, to promote cooperation between universities, research centres and businesses.

Sapienza is a public, independent and free university committed to contributing to the development of the society of knowledge through research, the formation of excellence and quality and international cooperation.
